How We Compare Serengeti Balloon Flights
Four bookable balloon flights over the Serengeti, each read on its own live listing and checked field by field: rating, review count, from-price, pickup radius, cancellation terms. Here is who does the reading, what gets checked twice, what gets left out, and how a small comparison site pays for itself without charging you a cent extra.
Who Reads The Listings
Four balloon flights over the Serengeti can be booked today, and their prices sit in a narrow band: $599 on three of them, $643 on the fourth. The number that decides your real budget is the one no balloon listing carries, the park entry fee charged for every day you spend inside the Serengeti. Keeping that visible beside every price is most of the job here, and the person doing it is Juma Kimaro.
Juma is a Tanzania-based Serengeti balloon safari specialist. He has coordinated sunrise balloon flights for international visitors since 2015, more than 1,000 travelers so far, and his working knowledge is the unglamorous machinery that makes those mornings run: flight logistics, safety procedures, pickup coordination, and the difference between a smooth dawn and a scrubbed one. He is known for calm professionalism and careful organisation, whether a guest is a first-time balloon passenger or a returning safari traveler.
Every listing on this site was read through that lens. Each flight was opened on its own live booking page and checked field by field: rating, review count, from-price, duration, pickup wording, cancellation terms. Nothing was copied out of another comparison site or lifted from an operator's press page. Four listings cleared the checks, and the ones that did not are named further down rather than quietly dropped.
How We Compare The Flights
Four live product pages, each read on its own. The park is small enough as a market that this is possible in a morning, which is exactly why there is no excuse for the vague price ranges that dominate the category. Here is what gets checked on every page, and where each figure comes from.
| What We Check | How It Is Done |
|---|---|
| The park-fee rule, before anything else | Every price on this site states that Serengeti park entry sits outside it. Under the latest published TANAPA tariff, a non-East African adult pays about US$83 per 24 hours, VAT included, charged for each day in the park and settled through your safari rather than your balloon booking. The separate US$50 per-passenger balloon fee TANAPA charges the operators is already inside the $599, which is why Serengeti Balloon Safaris publishes the same rate on its own site. A price printed here without that context counts as a fault in the page, not a matter of style. |
| Ratings and review counts | The booking platforms' own published figures, copied exactly and re-read at each update rather than carried forward. The four run 4.9 across 3,673 reviews, 5.0 across 2,798, 4.9 across 9 and 5.0 across 3. Small samples are printed at their real size: three reviews is three reviews, and nine is nine. A new listing with a perfect score has not proved anything yet, and the cards say so instead of dressing it up. |
| Prices | Current from-prices, per person, taken from the live listing. A from-price is a floor and not a quote: what you pay moves with the date, the option you pick and the country you book from, so every card here opens the listing where the real number lives. |
| Durations, pickups and operators | Straight from each listing's own fields, and left blank where a listing states nothing. Three run about five hours door to door and the fourth about four and a half. Pickup wording differs more than the prices do: Serengeti Balloon Safaris reaches camps and lodges within roughly two hours of the morning's launch site, on the Serengeti and Ngorongoro sides; Nyssa collects around Seronera from about 5am; Beach & Safari Holidays publishes a wider list of Serengeti accommodation; Miracle Experience picks up from camps inside the park within reach of the launch site. Where a listing publishes no figure, the field stays empty rather than being filled with a plausible one. |
| Flight rules, park fees and advisories | Not from the tour listings. Age minimums come from the operators' own published terms and they differ, 6 years with one operation and 7 with the other, so no single number is printed for both; the listings add their own lines, including a 120 cm height limit and a 120 kg weight limit on one. The 120 kg surcharge threshold and the 80 kg planning average are the operators' own figures, as is the rule that pregnant passengers do not fly. Balloon operations in Tanzania are licensed by the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority and flown by commercial pilots. Park fees follow the latest published TANAPA tariff, and advisory levels come from the governments that issue them. |
| Cancellation and weather | From each listing's own booking panel. All four flights cancel free up to 24 hours before the start, checked on each listing, so holding a date early costs nothing. Weather is a separate mechanism: when the pilot scrubs a morning for wind, the operator's published terms put you on another flight or refund the booking in full. The call belongs to the pilot and it is not open to argument, which is how you want a balloon operation run. |
| The add-ons | Three further tours are carried as add-ons, never as Serengeti flights: a Ngorongoro Crater ground day trip, a Maasai Mara balloon in Kenya, and a Tarangire balloon in a different Tanzanian park. Each is checked on its own listing for what it includes and what it excludes, its cancellation terms are read separately because they are not the flights' terms, and each card says plainly which park it actually covers. |
What This Site Will Not Do
How This Site Is Paid For
This site does not operate flights. It cannot amend a booking, move your date, refund a scrubbed morning or add you to a basket. All of that happens on the operator's own listing, which is also where your voucher, your pickup time and your cancellation window live.
The links to those listings are what pays for the research. Book after clicking one and the booking platform passes back a share of what it already earns from the operator. Your price is identical to the price you would see arriving at that listing directly, because that share comes out of the platform's margin and is never added to your ticket. No operator has paid to appear here or to sit higher on a page, and where a section leads with one flight it is the most-reviewed flight in that section, a rule you can check yourself against the numbers on the cards. Nothing at all reaches this site from park fees, which go to TANAPA.
If you would rather not use these links, every operator here can be found by name and booked directly. The full mechanics, including which platforms are involved and how the lodge buttons work, are set out on the disclosure page.
Contact Us
A small editorial desk, not a call center and not a booking office. There is no contact form and no ticket number here. Send an email and a person reads it.
Things worth writing to us about:
- A price on this site that has moved. Balloon listings reprice, and platforms show you your own currency, so if a card says $599 and the listing in front of you says something else, we would rather hear it from you than catch it on the next re-check.
- A listing that has vanished, gone unbookable, or quietly changed what it includes. The park-fee line is the one that matters most: if an operator starts folding Serengeti entry fees into a balloon price, or drops the levy it currently carries, that is a correction we will make the same day.
- A factual error anywhere on the site. Age minimums, the weight threshold, medical restrictions, launch-site seasons, park fees, advisory levels. All of it comes from operators' published terms or from official sources rather than from memory, and all of it can go out of date.
- Operators: updates to your own terms, rules, launch sites or pickup radius. If a figure on this site misrepresents your operation, tell us what is wrong and where it is published, and we will read it against your own page and fix it.
- Partnerships and press: we do not sell placement, and no operator can buy a position or an ordering here. Anything else, from data corrections to reuse of a chart, is worth an email.
- A bookable Serengeti balloon flight that is not here. If it has a real, currently bookable listing with published dates and a clear position on park fees, send the link and we will read it the way we read the other four.
- A question that neither the FAQ nor the guides answers.

What To Expect Back
An honest answer, not a fast one. Corrections get priority and usually go live within a day or two of being checked, because a wrong price or a wrong age rule is the kind of error that costs somebody a morning they cannot repeat. General questions take longer, and some of them get answered by adding a paragraph to a guide rather than by return email, which helps the next person asking the same thing. We do not send a newsletter, we do not follow up to sell you anything, and we do not pass your address anywhere.
What We Cannot Help With
We cannot take a booking, hold a place in a basket, move your date, cancel a flight or issue a refund. None of those are ours to touch. Every flight on this site is sold and flown by somebody else, and Serengeti park fees belong to TANAPA rather than to us or the operator. So if the question is about a booking you have already made, the confirmation email you were sent is the fastest route: it carries your reference and a message button that reaches the people who will actually be at your camp in the dark. Two details on it are worth checking before you write to anyone. The pickup time first, set the evening before and landing somewhere in the pre-dawn window depending on how far your camp sits from the launch site. Then the cancellation window, which on all four flights runs free up to 24 hours before the start; a weather scrub is handled separately by the operator, who rebooks you or refunds the flight in full.
Still deciding which morning to book? The four flights compared narrow it down faster than we can by email, the FAQ answers the booking questions, and the guides cover prices, seasons, safety and what the dawn hour actually includes.
